Heavy rain returns to Chennai and surrounding districts; holiday for schools

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been forecast in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu owing to a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, the Nungambakkam observatory in Chennai recorded a whopping 66 mm of rainfall out of which 65 mm of rainfall was recorded during the night time.

Collectors of Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram declared holiday for schools today.
