Elderly couple alleges threat by politician, seeks cops’ help
An elderly couple on Monday submitted a petition at City Police Commissionerate alleging threats by a local politician in connection with their shop located in the busy Royapettah High Road.
Chennai
Ramadoss (73), in his petition, stated that he rented out his 350 sq ft commercial space to one Mohammed Basheer in 2016 to run a tiffin centre on a daily rent of Rs 1,400. “Mohammed Basheer couldn’t run the shop since May due to personal reasons. However, in September, another person Akbar who claimed to be Mohammed’s Basheer’s friend opened the shop without my knowledge.
When I inquired Basheer assured that the rent will be paid as discussed earlier,” Ramadoss said in the petition. However, an unknown person reportedly asked Ramadoss to meet Mathiazhagan, a local politician attached to the AIADMK, at a restaurant. When he went there with his wife, Mathiazhagan, Akbar and a few others allegedly told him that only Rs 1,000 will be paid as rent and threatened him of consequences if he doesn’t cooperate. Mohammed Basheer, the original tenant, couldn’t be reached, said Ramadoss, who has requested the Commissioner to take action against Akbar and Mathiazhagan. The petition has been forwarded to Mylapore Deputy Commissioner for inquiry.
