Man commits suicide in police station
In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old accused committed suicide by hanging inside a police station at Aruppukottai in Virudhunagar district, on Sunday.

The accused was identified as Malaisamy, a daily wage labourer from Suklanatham village near Arupukottai. It is said that, he had allegedly abused and harassed a relative in an inebriated state. Based on the complaint, police had picked up Malaisamy and taken him to Aruppukottai taluk police station. The accused went to attend nature’s call and did not return for a long time. Suspected policemen broke open the toilet door and were shocked to see Malaisamy hanging.
In a similar incident, a 25-year-old history sheeter, who was brought to Kancheepuram taluk police station for inquiry on Sunday, allegedly slit his throat with a blade. The man identified as Bell Suresh has several cases pending against him, said police.Â
Police had brought Suresh to the police station for an inquiry. In the evening, Suresh asked permission to use the restroom. However, within minutes he cried for help and police rushed in to see him lying in a pool of blood. They immediately took him to the Kancheepuram GH and was declared to be out of danger.
