The accused, V Venkatraman, a resident of RMK Nagar in Perungalathur, is a caterer by profession, said police. He has been arrested based on a complaint filed by the children’s parents. Police said that the accused who lives alone in his house would often take Brinda (5) and Vinitha (6) (*names changed) to his house and since he was an elderly person their parents did not suspect him. However, both the girls recently complained of pain while urinating and their parents took them to a hospital, where the doctor suggested that the girls could have been molested.

When asked the children told the parents about the abuse at the hands of Venkatraman. The parents immediately filed a complaint at Peerkankaranai police station, from where the case was later transferred to Tambaram All Woman Police station. After the inquiry, Venkatraman was arrested.

    Class 4 girl sexually abused

In another incident, a nine-yearold girl was molested by an acquaintance near Vandalur. The accused K Murugan is a daily wage labourer. He offered a lift to the girl on his two-wheeler, when she was waiting with her mother at Tambaram for bus to their village, Vengadamangalam. Since the girl’s mother knows him, she allowed him to take the child along and she went home by bus. However, when she reached home, her daughter wasn’t there.

Meanwhile, Murugan stopped his two-wheeler on the way and took the girl to a secluded place to sexually abuse her. Hearing her cries, passers-by rescued her from Murugan. They also thrashed him before handing him over to Selaiyur police station. The girl’s mother on information rushed to the police station and filed a formal complaint. Later, the case was transferred to Tambaram All Woman Police station, where Murugan has been detained for further inquiry.
