    Video lecture modules launched at Anna University

    With the launch of the e-learning lecture modules by the Directorate of Technical Education, on Wednesday, students studying in all the 518 polytechnic colleges in the state stand to benefit as they will have access to well-trained teachers’ lectures any time.

    The first phase of 83 video modules in Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry and Engineering mathematics was inaugurated by KP Anbalagan, on Wednesday at the Anna University. The modules have been launched at a cost of Rs 58 lakh. 

    Speaking to the students, the minister said that repeated efforts of the Late CM J Jayalalithaa had finally yielded results. It has resulted in improving the higher education enrolment rate. He pointed that according to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (2015-16) survey, the higher education gross enrolment of the country is 24.5 per cent. However, the ratio of Tamil Nadu stands much higher at 44.3 per cent. 

    He also pointed out that e-learning could be the best way of imparting quality education for students from all over the state. He pointed out that there are 89 new departments in the colleges. To take the well-trained teachers’ lectures to all the students in the state, this initiative has come handy and students will have access to lectures in nearly 36 subjects.

    Now, 83 e-learning video modules are ready now and students can study by downloading these videos from the YouTube. Talking to the students, Higher Education Secretary Sunil Paliwal pointed out that students in Polytechnic colleges have the chance to join engineering in the second year.

    After one of the students pointed out that she chose to study in a polytechnic college as she could not afford to study in an engineering college, because of the poor financial condition of the family, the IAS officer told the students not to lose hope and work towards their passion. 

    There are around 518 polytechnic colleges in the state, out of which 418 are self-financing ones and 46 are run by the government. Added to this, as many as 16 polytechnic colleges were opened last year.
