Subdued rain predicted in city for next 2-3 days

After 10 days of continuous rains of varying intensity, Chennai is possibly heading into a much-needed break mode, which will allow the city to recover from a variety of issues, mainly waterlogging.

Weathermen at Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) say that the rain activity will slow down, while moderate showers can be experienced in interior districts. As far as Chennai is concerned, rain which has slowed down since Wednesday, is likely to see subdued activity for the next two to three days.

“Satellite imageries show no sign of thunderstorms and new depression. However, there will be light showers in districts like Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram, which didn’t receive much rain even after north east monsoon arrived in the state,” said an official of RMC.

Weather bloggers also predict the same. K Srikanth, a city based weather blogger, said, “In what will be a relief to the farmers of delta districts, particularly closer to the coast, the non-stop heavy rain will slow down.

It remains to be seen though if the waterlogged fields will recover enough for the Samba crops to come out unscathed in the coming days.” The blogger added that with models expecting the current tropical depression over Malay Peninsula to move into Andaman Sea in the coming 24 to 48 hours, there will be some change in dynamics depending on how low it evolves and moves across the Indian sub-continent.
