In an incident that made the police and a family scramble for clues, a businessman on Tuesday abducted his three-yearold son and demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh from his family.
Chennai
The accused, Ravikumar (30) of Purasawalkam, runs a travels business in Porur. It is said that Ravikumar suffered a loss in his business recently and ran out of funds.Â
Since he could not continue his extravagant lifestyle, he decided to extract money from his family by abducting his own son, Ganesh.
On Tuesday morning, he took Ganesh from his house on Kellys Baraka Road to drop him at a private play school in Ayanavaram. However, within a few minutes he called his wife Thamizh Ilakkiya and told her some unidentified men attacked him and abducted their son.Â
He also told her that the kidnappers demanded Rs 5 lakh in order to release the kid. In panic, Thamizh Ilakkiya and her father-in-law Paramasivam immediately took Rs 5 lakh with them in a car and gave it to Ravikumar.Â
Within a few hours, Ravikumar called his wife and informed her that the kidnappers handed over the kid to him near Peravallur, after receiving the money.Â
Meanwhile, Thamizh Ilakkiya lodged a complaint with police regarding the incident. On suspicion, police officials conducted an inquiry with Ravikumar, when he admitted to them that he staged the kidnap drama for money. The kid Ganesh was at Ravikumar friend’s house in Peravallur. Police are investigating further.
