Minister RB Udhayakumar along with former legislators and councillors took stock of the flood situation in Tondiarpet. Speaking to DT Next, he said that they were working to dewater the inundated areas and that all places would return to normalcy soon. “We have increased the number of pumps used,” he said.
The Minister also maintained that removal of encroachments from water bodies was under way and that it would continue. Similarly, D Jayakumar carried out a review of relief measures in a Corporation Zonal office here. Seconding the claims of Udhayakumar, Jayakumar said that the water would gradually be removed as rains have started to recede.
Ministers KT Rajenthra Bhalaji and VM Rajalakshmi took stock of the rain-battered roads in Manappakkam, which too falls under the City Corporation limits. The Ministers also reviewed the rain effects on former CM MGR’s memorial in Ramapuram, among others.
Meanwhile, Minister Sellur K Raju inspected state-run farm fresh stores in Anna Nagar and Park Town. Raju said the procurement of vegetables would be increased as the commodity inflow into the market had taken a beating due to rains. Measures are in place to increase the procurement and make the vegetables available at a lower price than market rate in farm fresh stores, he said. A total of 79 farm fresh outlets across the state had sold 28,923 mt vegetables until November 5.
