Iranian Couple's fight forces flight to land at Chennai airport
An inebriated woman’s in-flight fight with her husband over his alleged affair with another woman forced the captain of a flight from Doha to Denpasar (Bali) to make an ‘emergency’ landing at Chennai airport on Sunday.
Chennai
The Iranian couple was flying to Bali with their child when the woman became drunk. “Just as the man was sleeping, the wife secretly unlocked his mobile phone using his finger print. And soon she found enough stuff in the phone which indicated he was cheating on her,” sources said. After a couple of drinks on board, she lost control and started fighting with her husband, sources said. When co-passengers tried to pacify her, she screamed at
them too.
Finally, when the crew realised that it would not be possible to calm her down, it was decided to offload her. The flight Boeing 777 belonging to Qatar Airways, with 284 passengers landed at Chennai airport at 10.17 am, sources said adding that there was no official explanation on what triggered the fight. Technically it was not an emergency landing. But the flight was diverted to Chennai so the crew could off-load the troublesome passenger. “The woman was off-loaded after she misbehaved with crew and co-passengers, while her husband and child too got off the flight on their own,” a CISF official said. No complaint or case was registered against the woman. The flight took off from Chennai at around 12.10 pm on Sunday without the three passengers.
For the other 281 passengers, it was two hours’ of delay in their schedule, while the family waited till the woman became sober and travelled to Kuala Lumpur by a Sunday 11.05 pm flight. They are expected to travel to Bali from there, sources added.
