Chennai: Gang attacks family over spurned relationship

Police said that Premkumar was in love with Kayalvizhi, a private school teacher from Edayanchavadi. Recently, Kayalvizhi’s parents, Pandiyan (49) and Narasamma (40), rejected the relationship since Premkumar did not have a stable job and started looking for an alliance for Kayalvizhi. 

On Sunday, Kayalvizhi was getting engaged to another man at a simple function in their house. On hearing about her engagement, Premkumar and five other friends went to their house on two bikes and attacked Pandiyan, Narasamma and their kin Aruldoss (54), who had come for the ceremony from Cuddalore, with knives and other weapons. Shocked relatives rushed the injured to Stanley Hospital, while the attackers fled the spot. With injuries on head, hands and shoulder, the trio are said to be out of danger. Though a formal complaint was not launched till Monday evening, Sholavaram police visited Stanley Hospital to take victims’ statements and have detained two men on suspicion.
