The incident took place around 12 pm when a group of residents started shouting slogans against the Corporation for letting the rainwater mix with sewage water and not taking any action even after a week of heavy rains. According to the protesters, they went to complain about the problem at the zonal office concerned on Sunday but it was shut.

On information, RK Nagar inspector Jeyaraj and team rushed to the spot and held talks with the residents. However, they wanted immediate action and asked the inspector to stay with them until their complaint was redressed.

However, when contacted, Jeyaraj refuted the incident. “Somebody from spot misconstrued the talks and spread the message on WhatsApp. I just stayed for 20 minutes in the street to make arrangements to pump out the water. Later, I visited the spot in the evening to check the status. Nearly 80 per cent of the water has been drained out, while the remaining work will be completed on Monday,” said the inspector.
