However, Jayakumar assured the residents that those responsible for the tragedy would be brought to book and that no one was above the law.
The locals also demanded of the Minister that the roads in the locality be relaid. “We have already initiated action on the incident which claimed the lives of two children. It is unfortunate that it had happened, and the officials suspected to have been at fault have been suspended. We cannot accept any lapse on the part of officials leading to such a tragedy. Those responsible will be held accountable and State will not hesitate to take action,” he added.
Jayakumar claimed that the suspension of officials would serve as a lesson in future for others and would act as a deterrent to such negligence. “The laying of underground power cables coverage across the city is being carried out. It is common that low lying areas getting inundated during rains, and Vyasarpadi and Perambur are such low lying areas. However, the state has taken measures to pump out the water and the effects of the same. It also stands testimony to the fact that the state was seized of the monsoon issue,” he added.
