    Minister blames TANGEDCO for deaths

    Following the tragic death of two young girls due to electrocution in Kodungaiyur on Wednesday, Electricity Minister P Thangamani blamed TANGEDCO officials for their apathy and suspended eight of them including three superior officials.

    Condoling the death of two girls, the minister said officials held a zone-wise discussion on the precautionary steps to be taken by TANGEDCO ahead of the NorthEast monsoon twice in the last one month. He also said that six special teams, led by Chief Engineers, have been formed to prevent such mishaps.

    He also promised that families of the girls will be given a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami offered a solatium of Rs 3 lakh each to the family of the two deceased kids. Meanwhile, residents of the locality took to roads and staged a protest.  

    Sembium Assistant Commissioner Arnold Easter, Kodungaiyur Inspector Pugazhendhi and other officials rushed to spot and held talks with the protesters.On the assurance that the wires will be removed forthwith and action will be taken against officials responsible for the tragedy, protesters dispersed. This is the third fatal incident reported since the onset of the North-East monsoon.
