Joicy sent to Puzhal jail with child; IPS officer suspended

He was arrested on Monday after he was caught by UPSC squad for using a bluetooth device to receive answers from his wife Joyce, sitting in Hyderabad, to write general studies test on the second day of six-day long civil service main examinations that started on Saturday.

He reportedly used a device to scan the question paper and send it to his wife. Police had booked him for cheating, criminal conspiracy along with sections of IT act. 

He had served as assistant SP, Nanguneri, Tirunelveli, earlier and was undergoing another training session in Mussoorie when he appeared for the examination in Chennai and got arrested. 

Meanwhile, police sources said that a probe is on to find out if he had indulged in any malpractice during the 2014 civil services examination which he had cleared to become an IPS officer. “Another Kerala state-level examination he took and an ISRO test attended by his sister are also being probed. A police team had already gone to Kerala in this regard,” sources added. 

After arresting the 29-year-officer, a native of Kerala, the police team on Tuesday apprehended his wife Joyce and one Rambabu, the business associate of Safeer Karim in running IAS coaching centres from Hyderabad. Safeer Karim and his wife Joyce along with their one-year-old daughter were lodged in Puzhal prison after they were remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday. 

“Rambabu will be remanded in judicial custody later in the evening,” police said.
