Both the boys, Jayasurya (17) and Velmurugan (16) hail from Kaliyanur village, located 7 km from Kancheepuram, and are students of St Anderson Boys Higher Secondary School in Kancheepuram. It is said that Velmurugan had been following Jayasurya’s sister for a while and she informed Jayasurya about it.

Despite several warnings by Jayasurya, Velmurugan continued disturbing the former’s sister. After school hours on Tuesday, Velmurugan was waiting at the bus stand when Jayasurya approached him and took out a knife he had hidden in the bag. On seeing the knife, Velmurugan tried to escape the spot, but Jayasurya chased him and slashed his head and shoulder.

Shocked passers-by rushed to Velmurugan’s rescue and sent him to hospital. They secured Jayasurya and handed him over to Sivakanchi police.

With 10 stitches in head and six in shoulder, Velmurugan is said to be out of danger. Police are inquiring about the incident further.
