Family of 4 injured as house catches fire due to LPG leak
Four of a family, a couple and their two children, suffered grievous injuries as their house in Kondungaiyur caught fire due to an LPG leak in the wee hours of Sunday.
Chennai
The victims — Babu (55), his wife Deepa (45), their daughter Sharmila (25) and son Kishore (22) — were asleep when the incident happened on 125th Street in Muthamizh Nagar. Neighbours who woke up to a loud noise were shocked to see the collapse of the front wall of Babu’s house.Â
The family members rushed out screaming with burns and they were taken to hospital in an ambulance. All four of them have suffered more than 50 per cent burns and remained critical.
Later, personnel from Korukkupet fire station rushed to the spot and put out the fire. Chemical analysts after inspecting the spot along with police said that the LPG leak might have caused the accident. Since the LPG regulator was very old, the gas must have leaked and filled the entire house as there was no proper ventilation.Â
Police said that Babu is a railway employee, while both her children are graduates. Sharmila is said to be working at a private firm and Kishore was looking for a job. Kodungaiyur police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
