MGR university introduces bioethics in curriculum
With the state witnessing a number of cases of either doctors failing to practice ethically or patients ill-treating the doctors in the past one year, the need to stress on bioethics is essential, said doctors on the occasion of World Bioethics Day.
Chennai
The MGR University has introduced bioethics in its curriculum to help medical students learn the importance of ethics and understand the difference between what is good and bad. The University celebrated the occasion by organising various events for the affiliated colleges.
Stating that professors are being trained on how to teach the students bioethics, said Dr S Geethalakshmi, Vice Chancellor of the University said, “Students should be sensitised and made aware of ethical practices which do not affect anybody. We therefore revamped the curriculum to introduce the subject.”
The University’s program, under the theme ‘Equality Justice and Equity’, saw the participation of around 81 students from affiliated colleges. They belonged to various departments, including Medical, Dental, Nursing, Siddha, Yoga and Naturopathy from different colleges across the city.
