    King Institute cleared Nilavembu drink

    Not known to have any toxic effects, the Nilavembu Kudineer has helped in curing the deadly dengue disease, stated officials from the King Institute in the city, where a research had been conducted to prove its efficacy.

    “We had collected material from the Siddha Institute and conducted a study in detail. We found that the antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects and the non-toxic properties of the herbal drink were helpful in increasing immunity. The study was conducted in 2012,” said Dr P Gunasekaran, Director, King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research.  

    The research stated, “The anti-viral properties of Nilavembu and its effect as prophylactic activity allows it to be used as a public health measure to combat the viral infections causing fever including dengue.” 

    Stressing on the efficacy of the herbal drink, Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan said, “It is an approved Siddha medicine, which is prepared after obtaining proper manufacturing licence. It contains nine herbs and has long been used by Siddha medical professionals for its efficacy against fevers and other conditions.” 

    Stating that many studies have been conducted on the same, Dr Parthiban, Joint Director, Siddha Institute, said, “Studies have been conducted by the ICMR, King Institute, which was published in the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Science and Research have proven that the herbal drink lacks toxicity and can be used in preventing and curing dengue.” 

    “It was found from a 2012 study that the Kudineer has preventive action against the occurrence of dengue related fevers,” said Dr N J Muthukumar, Superintendent, National Institute of Siddha.
