TTV Dinakaran firm to contest in RK Nagar
Raising the possibility of a replay of the previous by-poll in RK Nagar, sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dinakaran will throw his ‘hat’ in the ring, whenever the elections are held. Party functionaries have said the leader would certainly contest the by-poll and if he does not get the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol, he would contest in the ‘hat’ symbol again.

Karnataka AIADMK secretary and party spokesperson V Pugazhendhi said, “An official announcement will be made by the leader himself at the right time. He has already contested in RK Nagar by-poll and he will not hesitate to do so again.” Last time, the by-poll fixed for April 12 was cancelled by the Election Commission following charges of widespread distribution of money by the leading candidates in the fray.
But, much water has flowed under the Cooum since April and the position of Dinakaran had undergone a sea change. From a leader commanding the support of a state government and its machinery, he has virtually become one of the antagonists facing scathing attacks from the ruling party.
It will be a struggle for political survival for the beleaguered leader looking to prove his faction as the ‘real AIADMK’ as he would face the heat of a merged ruling party and the principal opposition DMK. A win or second position in RK Nagar will give the much-needed legitimacy to his faction.
The by-poll will be a make or break prospect for both the groups claiming the legacy of Jayalalithaa. Whoever finishes at the bottom of the table with a few thousand votes is certain to lose the battle in the very first round.
