Tambaram Municipality sacks two workers for cruelty to dogs
Action has been taken against the two men who were seen dragging a black dog tied to a rope, in a viral video.
Chennai
Animal welfare groups wrote to the Tambaram Municipality asking for strict action. In a letter addressed to the Minister of Animal Husbandry, K Krishnamurthy, Commissioner, Tambaram Municipality, said, “We have taken strict action against the International Trust of Peace Agency, who have involved the labourers for dog- catching. Without providing any information to the Municipality, the private agency caught the dogs.”
Sai Vignesh, an animal activist, said, “We were also informed that the two suspects have been permanently terminated.”
A few days ago, a video was circulated online, where a black dog was dragged out by two youth. Towards the end of the video, the dog collapses, but the two men continue to drag it. The video was captured by the students of VIT in Chennai.
A complaint was lodged by the Blue Cross of India with the Thalambur police station against the Tambaram Municipal Corporation and Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), for allegedly capturing 11 dogs from the VIT campus in Chennai’s Kelambakkam.
This is not the first time such videos of dogs being tortured inside a college campus have surfaced, with Bhadra’s being one of the most popular ones. Two medical students had tortured Bhadra and flung her from a terrace, but Bhadra survived.
