Lawyers pulled up in medical college case; FIR against old and new trustees ordered

Justice N Kirubakaran, on directing the Kancheepuram police to file an FIR against both the old and new trustees if they fail to file an affidavit before October 20 identifying the involvement of the ‘so-called lawyers’, said, “It is neither surprising nor shocking for this Court to hear about the engagement of the ‘socalled advocates’ to retain possession by the original trustees, based on certain court orders.” 

However, on roping the Bar Council of India and Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as a respondent to initiate disciplinary action against those involved, the case has been posted for further hearing to October 24.

The Madras High Court has directed the collectors to act with a free hand in ensuring the removal of all encroachments on water bodies. Recording the presence of 13 collectors, who were summoned for failing to report on the extent of encroachment on water bodies, a division bench comprising Justices Huluvadi G Ramesh and RMT Teekaa Raman sought them to ensure that none of the govt land is registered if it failed to have a no objection certificate from the revenue officials. 

However, informing the collectors that they were asked to be present to impress upon them the dire need to protect water bodies, the bench adjourned the case to November 17. 

The anticipatory bail plea moved by comedy actor N Santhanam at the Madras High Court for allegedly assaulting a realtor has been adjourned to Friday. Justice N Authinathan adjourned the case after asking the Valsaravakkam police to submit the medical condition of advocate Prem Anand, who reportedly sustained injuries in the attack.
