4 ‘armed’ students held for creating scare at railway station
After videos of a group of men wielding machetes and wooden logs in a moving train and also bursting crackers at Nemilichery station went viral, Pattabiram police on Monday arrested four college students, who were allegedly part of the gang and seized the weapons from them.

The accused have been identified as Jagadishwaran (18) of Thinnanur near Avadi - a first-year BCom in Presidency College, Dhandapani (20) of Thinnanur - a BSc third-year student in Presidency College, Krishnan (18) of Arakkonam - a first-year BSc student from Sir Theagaraya College and Yuvaraj (20) of Putlur – a second-year BSc student of Sir Theagaraya College. Two machetes were also seized from them and police are grilling them to nab the others who were involved in the incident.
The videos with the caption – “We are like this and we will always be like this,” which were posted on Facebook on October 7 by a person with a profile name called Bharathiraja Pachaiyappa’s College went viral.
Two of the three videos showed a group of men in a moving train wielding machetes and wooden logs towards passengers waiting at the Nemilichery railway station, while the other one featured a few college students attempting stunts in moving trains and buses. They also burst crackers at the station in blatant violation the rules not to carry inflammatory objects in the train.
Some of them even threatened to slash anyone trying to stop them. A few of them uttered Pachaiyappa’s College name a couple of times. Swinging into action, Pattabiram police traced one of them and with his inputs arrested three other students. Since none of them was from Pachaiyappa’s College, it is suspected that the students could have attempted to demean the institution.
Meanwhile, Pachaiyappa’s College Principal Kaliraj said that they have begun the internal investigation to find out any student from the institution was involved in the incident.
“We will come to know about it in a day and if we find that our students were part of it, they will be immediately suspended. Nobody who creates a law and order issue should be spared,” he said.
