Four held for faking robbery at MMDA colony
City police on Sunday arrested four persons, including three of a family, for allegedly faking a robbery at MMDA Colony on Saturday. The arrested were identified as P Amutha (45), her mother Nagammal (65), their relative Udaya Rajan (31) and his friend Gandhi Rajan (39) of Red Hills.

According to the police Amutha, a resident of III Street, in Mathur MMDA colony, ran a chit fund firm and collected money from 150 residents. Before Deepavali, she was supposed to return the investment but she ran out of cash. She informed about this to the four and they decided to stage a robbery.Â
Accordingly, they told the police that Nagammal, who was alone at home, was gagged and robbed at knife point and the robbers had taken away Rs 9 lakh. Amutha had lodged a police complaint. However, during investigation the family members’ answers were found to be contradictory. Police further scanned the CCTV footage in the locality which showed Gandhi Rajan enter the house and leave with some papers. During further interrogation, all the four confessed to the crime.
Chain snatcher on CCTV held
Saidapet police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a chain snatching incident on Anna Salai near Nandanam on September 30. The accused has been identified as L Manikandan (22) of Teynampet. He along with another person followed the victim Sasikala on a two-wheeler around 8.30 pm and snatched her 10 sovereign gold chains.Â
Two days later, CCTV footage of the incident surfaced after which police intensified the investigation and arrested one of the duo. The police have also seized the gold chain from him. Police are on the lookout for another accused, said sources.
