Woman doctor stabbed over rivalry
A 36-year-old lady doctor was stabbed by a man on Wednesday night in front of her house in Perambur over a professional rivalry, police said here. The injured Dr Ramya Shanmughasundaram had been admitted to hospital while the police had arrested her former employer Dr VM Thomas of Chennai Fertility Centre and five of his associates.

The incident happened at 10 pm when Dr Ramya reached her house on Patel road in her car. As soon as Ramya got out of her car, a burka clad person stabbed her. She suffered five stab injuries, said sources.
Police said that Dr Ramya is currently working private fertility hospital in Koyambedu after leaving Dr Thomas’s clinic. “Dr Ramya had worked in Chennai Fertility Centre located on Nelson Manickam Road for the last three years. Thomas had been running the hospital in the last 10 years and Dr Ramya left his clinic six months ago over some salary-related issue,” police said.
She later joined as a partner-doctor in another fertility clinic located in Koyambedu. Though Dr Thomas tried to hire her again to his clinic, she showed no interest. Dr Thomas started threatening and accusing that Ramya was luring his patients to her new clinic.
On Wednesday night, by the time doctor’s mother came out of the house, the assailants had escaped from the scene.
The investigating officer met Dr Ramya at hospital and she had informed the police about the threat calls she received from Dr Thomas in the past. “Based on the information, we secured six suspects including Dr Thomas,” police said.
Police noted that Dr Thomas had hired men to attack the lady doctor. Dr Ramya’s husband, Shanmugasundaram is also a doctor working in a private hospital.
