Transplant done as per TRANSTAN guidelines: Hospital
Gleneagles Global Health City, Perumbakkam, stated that the family decided to move the patient named Karthik from Thanjavur to a private hospital for a second opinion, against medical advice.

A press release from the hospital said, “Mr Karthik, young gentleman hailing from Thanjavur, was admitted at the local hospital on September 30, with sevee head injuries and associated injuries like long bone fractures.The doctors at the hospital apprised the family of his poor outcome. Against the medical advice, the family decided to move him to a private hospital for second opinion and specialised care. The family chose to transfer him to Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai. The patient was seen by the neurological and trauma team and was provided further treatment at our centre. Despite treatment, Karthik succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced brain dead on October 3. Following brain death declaration, Karthik’s family was counselled regarding organ donation. The family provided their consent to donate the organs (liver, heart, lungs and kidneys). As per the guidelines of TRANSTAN, Government of Tamil Nadu, liver, heart, lungs and one kidney was allocated to the Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai, as this was an in-house organ donation. The other kidney was allocated to the common pool as per government regulations. The liver and kidney were allocated to a 74-year-old male patient, who was on the top of the combined liver-kidney transplant waiting list. The heart was allocated to a 43-year-old male patient from Tamil Nadu and the lung was allocated to a 62-year-old male patient from Uttar Pradesh. All operations went on well and the patients are recovering well in the intensive care.”
