Around 10 pm on Tuesday, the youths entered a job consultancy firm in Virugambakkam and asked for its owner Imran. When Imran’s father Mohammed Rafiq, who was with his friend Lal Bahadur, answered them, they attacked him and took him away in a car. Based on Lal Bahadur’s complaint, K K Nagar police registered a case and formed a team to search for Rafiq.

The police got a clue that Rafiq has been held hostage in Kundrathur, following which they went to the spot and rescued him. All the eight men were secured and brought to the KK Nagar police station.

During the investigation, police found out that Rafiq was kidnapped as his son Imran had cheated the youth of Rs 1.6 lakh, promising them jobs abroad. Imran is said to have cheated nearly 50 youngsters similarly. While all the eight have been detained for taking law into their hands, police are trying to book Imran for cheating.
