He appealed to the students to come out with cost-effective toilets which will consume less water and be more hygienic.
“I had already insisted the Universities in the state to upkeep the campus and toilets, construct adequate toilets, and promote green cover in the varsities and then affiliated colleges,” Vidyasagar Rao rued.
As regards green cover enhancement, Higher Education Secretary Sunil Paliwal said that they had planted as many as 15 lakh saplings across 13 Universities in the state, while Anna University alone had planted as many as 1.5 lakh saplings. “The figure exceeds the target of planting 10 lakh saplings before the onset of North East monsoon – October 15,” the Secretary noted.
Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan pointed out that it takes everyone to keep the City clean as its sewage canal network runs to a length of 2,600 km while under-ground-sewage channels run to an extent of over 80,000 km, and generating 5 tonnes of garbage with about 10 lakh conservancy workers attending to it.
