Following several complaints that ganja peddling was rampant on this road, the Madipakkam police arrested a few men and found them to be repeated offenders. In order to nab the suppliers, Madipakkam police got the suppliers’ contact from the accused and contacted them claiming to be peddlers themselves. They told the suppliers that they needed 30 kg to sell in areas like Tiruchy and other districts. Believing them, the suppliers asked the police personnel to wait at a particular location on the 200-ft road on Tuesday night.

A few policemen in plain clothes waited at the suggested location. The suppliers had bought just 3 kg ganja. They told the police that it was difficult to get 30 kilos and asked them to come back once the stock was over.

Meanwhile, policemen who were hiding nearby surrounded the ganja suppliers and arrested them. The accused have been identified as D Yohan Palli (35) from Shenoy Nagar and M Saravanan (30) from Tiruverkadu. After the preliminary inquiry, police said that the arrested duo were repeat offenders with murder cases pending against them and had come out on bail recently. They revealed that they source the ganja from Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Kannagi Nagar police have arrested six persons including two men for peddling ganja and 7.5 kg of narcotics were seized from them. Ranjithkumar (39), Victor (30) and Raghu (41) were arrested from Kannagi Nagar arch and ganja weighing more than three kilogram was seized from them on Tuesday afternoon. Around 2 pm, another team arrested Muniyan (45), Sumaiya (28) and Ponnamma (55) near Nagathamman temple and seized ganja 3.6 kg ganja from them. All the six have been remanded in judicial custody.
