December has always been a jinxed month. In 2015, we had the flood and in 2016 we were hit by cyclone Varadah. Even the Tsunami happened in the month of December. “We have been constantly getting calls asking whether the messages on social media are true,” said an MeT official, further adding, “We constantly update our website and people can check it any time. About the floods in December, to my knowledge, there is no such technology available that predicts long-term details. ”
Another rumour that is doing the rounds is that of an earthquake by the end of the year. “These are based on half-cooked information. There are some people who study celestial bodies. They study some planetary movements and make predictions of an earthquake. People must ignore these messages on social media and follow trusted platforms,” said Professor G Ganapathy, director of Centre for Disaster Mitigation and Management, VIT University.
