He was speaking about his plans for the current years at the academic council meet. “We should not merely rest on our past glories but continue to persevere and make our university one of the top five in the country.” Duraisamy also spoke about his 10-point agenda that he presented during his first syndicate meeting as the vice-chancellor.

It included enhancing academic performance and institutional ranking, skill development and revamping courses, e-learning through regular and distance learning, and digitisation of administration for paperless and cashless transaction.

Talking about the curriculum and regulations, he pointed that those underlying all undergraduate and post-graduate programmes offered in affiliated colleges are now consolidated and brought into one document.

“The common regulation will be uploaded in the website and circulated to all the colleges. This will help all those connected with higher education system in this country access the regulations.” Keeping in mind the ‘students first’ policy, Duraisamy addressed the issue of different nomenclatures of degree courses. He said, “We have been starting new degree programmed with new nomenclature but never think about its equivalence to the existing degrees.

When students go out with their degrees, they face problem of equivalence. I would like to request all board of studies to look into the issue and state whether the new or inter-disciplinary degree programme is equivalent to the existing one or not.”
