The Madras High Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to disqualified Papireddipatti MLA Palaniappan, belonging to TTV Dinakaran faction, in connection with contractor KR Subramanian’s suicide.
Chennai
Justice PN Prakash, on granting the plea, directed him to appear before the Inspector of Police, CB CID, Namakkal, for a period of two weeks at 10.30 am daily and thereafter as and when required.
During the crackdown on State Health Minister Vijaya Bhaskar by I-T sleuths on April 7, the house of the said contractor, considered a close aide of the minister, was also raided.
However, on May 8, he reportedly committed suicide leaving behind a suicide note in which the name of his rival PSK Thennarasu and that of Palaniappan figured.
Stating that even Subramanian’s wife and son on police enquiry did not mention his name, Palanaiapaan submitted that he had also appeared before the investigating authority on July 22 and answered all the questions put forth to him.
Stating that the police have once again called him for enquiry, he expressed apprehension that the present government with malice was putting pressure on the police to somehow arrest him as he is not supporting the present government.
