Failed robbery attempt at ATM on Pallavan Salai
An attempt by some unidentified burglars to loot an automated teller machine (ATM) on Pallavan Salai failed as they could not find any cash in it on Sunday night.
Chennai
The incident might have taken place between 11.30 pm and 2.30 am and two people are expected to be behind the failed heist.
The ATM kiosk that belongs to a nationalised bank was completely mangled and police said that the burglars must have spent at least an hour opening the machine with a cutter. The absence of a security personnel worked in favour of the burglars, said police sources.
Since they didn’t find the cash in the broken part of the machine, the dejected burglars must have begun cutting the bottom of the ATM and abandoned it halfway due to movement of people.
A customer noticed the ATM broken into pieces and alerted the bank officials, who, in turn, informed the police.
While bank officials maintained that CCTV footages were available, sources from the police said that the cameras were not functional and hence it is difficult to crack the case.
