Amend bail conditions for heinous crimes: Hasini’s dad

A day after22-year-old Daswanth was released on bail on charges of rape-and-murder of a seven-year-old girl in Mugalivakkam, the victim’s father Babu on Thursday sought the Chief Justice of Madras High Court to immediately revoke the temporary relief to the accused, while requesting the Chief Minister to amend the bail provisions for accused in heinous crimes.

Stating that his family is yet to come out of the trauma caused by the gruesome incident even after seven months, the victim’s father Babu said that he was shocked to hear that the accused was granted bail despite evidences clearly suggesting that Daswanth raped, burnt the girl child and threw the remains at a dumpyard in Anakaputhur.

“The court’s move has sent out a wrong message in society that one can commit any kind of crime with confidence and walk out on bail. This will lead to a situation where people no longer have faith in the judiciary.

When my family has been having sleepless nights, the murderer is happily out of jail,” said Babu.

It is said that Mangadu police had to wait for about five months for the post-mortem report to come from Hyderabad to file the charge sheet and the accused used the provision to apply for bail after three months.

“It is unfair that an accused of a heinous crime obtains bail using archaic law, while the case requires five months to file the charge sheet. Five months ago, Daswanth’s father challenged

me that he would get his son out on bail and I retorted saying it was impossible.

But he has won. Today, he challenged me again that he will get Daswanth acquitted, but I don’t have the confidence to say that justice will prevail unless the Chief Justice Indira Banerjee comes forward to revoke the order,” he said.

“What happened to my child, should not happen to other children,” he said. He requested the advocates not to appear for a “paedophile” just like in Haryana.
