Finnish woman molested by auto driver near Mamallapuram

The victim has been in Mamallapuram for over two months and is working as a volunteer at an NGO. The daring incident happened when she was returning to Mamallapuram from Kelambakkam in a share-auto on September 8. Police said that she had already alerted her friend to wait at a particular spot in Mamallapuram to pick her up. 

Since was alone in the auto after all the passengers got down, the driver reportedly stopped the vehicle in a secluded place near a private college and tried to misbehave with her. Since the woman knew martial arts, she managed get herself relieved from the clutches of the auto driver and ran from the place and reached her friend, said a police official. Later, they both filed a complaint regarding the incident at the Mamallapuram police station. Police are investigating in the locality to nab the share-auto driver, though none was arrested till Wednesday. 

This is not the first time that tourists are being targeted in Mamallapuram. In April this year, a 24-year-old German woman was raped by unidentified men in Mamallapuram. But police are still clueless about the miscreants. Though they arrested a few men, they were later let off due to lack of evidence. In December 2016, a Slovenian tourist was attacked and robbed of cash, a mobile phone and her passport while on a stroll at Mamallapuram beach.
