Cops foil students’ bid to besiege DPI campus over NEET issue

About 15 representatives of All India Students’ Federation (AISF) reached the DPI around 11.30 am. When they tried to enter the complex, police personnel posted there detained them. Later, they were released at 6.30 pm.

Similarly, around 300 members of Students’ Federation of India (SFI) tried to block the road near Rajaratnam Stadium and were detained under preventive measures. Nearly 500 students of Dr Ambedkar Government Arts College in Vyasarpadi blocked the road, but dispersed after warnings from police. Similar protests were held by college students in Tiruvottiyur. 

Call for educational qualification for politicians Meanwhile students of Dr Ambedkar University, who staged protests on the Taramani campus for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, were contemplating to file a petition in the High Court seeking to fix minimum educational qualification for politicians to contest in elections. 

“When every other profession has eligibility criteria, it is unfair that politicians alone are exclusive to the norm. As law students, we think it is our responsibility to address this problem. We want all law students to unite for this cause, though we are yet to consult with them,” said T Vedhanth, a final-year student.
