Fisherman’s house burgled: Cash, gold stolen
About 140 sovereigns of jewels and Rs 15 lakh in cash have been stolen from a mechanised boat owner’s house in Kasimedu when he had gone to a temple in Periyapalayam with family. The victim, Bhaskar, has his house on Kasima Nagar.

On Sunday, neighbours saw Bhaskar’s house broken open and alerted him as well as the police. When police rushed to the spot, they found that the two bureaus kept inside were ransacked and valuables stolen.
The burglars had abandoned the tools used to break the house door and decamped with cash, gold jewels and silver articles. Kasimedu police have registered a case and lifted finger prints from the spot.
After the initial investigation, police said that Bhaskar’s kin visited the house on Saturday afternoon, but locked back the door when they left. Police suspect that someone known to Bhaskar must have burgled the house.
