    Education should enrich character: Governor

    “The higher education imparted should teach one a meaningful philosophy of life and enrich the character,” Tamil Nadu Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, said while he launched ‘India at 70’, an exhibition, and Nurturing Global Leaders of Tomorrow: An inclusive learning model shows the way, a book, at Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir (SKMSVM), here on Sunday.

    The book is authored by DVR Seshadri and Prof Swati Sisodia of Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. 

    “The book dwells on dual education and on the need for combining any form of art and culture with mainstream education. I am sure this will provide food for thought for policy makers, academic planners and educationists,” Rao said. 

    The Governor observed that the Indian civilization had a strong tradition of science and technology. He added that ancient India displayed its strength in making of the best steel besides teaching how to count. 

    “India has actively contributed to the development of science and technology, especially in the field of medical science. The theories and techniques discovered by the ancient Indians have laid the foundation for modern science and technology,” he rued. 

    Recalling the contribution of Indian Nobel Laureates in the field of Literature, Physics, Economics and Chemistry, the Governor invoked the educationists and members of the teaching fraternity to join hands as to revive that spirit among younger generation and instill confidence in them. 

    Later in the day, Rao had an interaction with the visitors to the Raj Bhavan and exchanged pleasantries.
