A 52-year-old woman was found murdered and 40 sovereigns of jewellery were reported missing from her house in Triplicane on Friday.
Chennai
The victim, D Kala, a money lender, was staying alone on the first floor of her three-storey house at Pazhani Amman Koil, Second Street, had last spoken to her son Kamal over phone at 11.30 am on Friday. Thereafter, she had failed to respond and her son had reportedly called on a few neighbours to check on her. But all of them had informed lack of response and that the doors of the house were locked.
According to Kamal’s wife Anitha, “Since her phone was unreachable until 10 pm, we rushed to the house the moment Kamal returned from work. Since there was no response, we broke open the door and to our horror we found her lying motionless and the jewellery robbed.”
Triplicane police, who registered a case of murder, sent her body to Kasturba Gandhi Government Hospital for Women and Children in Triplicane for post-mortem.
Police suspect that the victim might have been pushed down violently as there were injuries on the back of her head and neck. A hunt is on to nab the culprits and police are combing the CCTV footage available on the showrooms located on Bells Road. Police also noted that despite the house being in a congested area none had noticed any person entering or leaving the house.
