Residents allege cut in Metro Water supply
Even after good rainfall in Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts, and a marginal increase of water level in the lakes supplying water to Metro Water, residents are still facing water shortage in many parts of the city.

However, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) officials maintained that they suspend piped water supply only when they take up maintenance work.
Residents lament that even though they pay water tax, Metro Water supply is erratic, forcing them to purchase water. They also claimed that neither officials nor staff visit them, even after complaining of lack of water supply.
“It is four days, since we received water and despite repeatedly contacted officials, there was no response.
Finally, I had to buy water for money,” said V Manikandan, a resident of Kolathur. “Even complaints of water pipeline bursts are not looked into,” he said. When contacted, an area engineer of Metro Water, said, “A couple months ago we suspended piped-water supply, as all the lakes went dry. However, we resumed water supply in the beginning of August.
In some areas, the water supply could be erratic due to low-pressure in the pipes. We are looking into these issues.” A spokesperson of CMWSSB, too maintained supply was not hit. “If water supply is suspended, we alert the residents,” the official said. Residents can register complaints on 044-4567 4567.
