Teachers, government staff to hold stir in taluks on September 7
Members of Joint Action Committee of Teachers’ Organisations and Government Employees Organisation (JACTO-GEO) gathered on Tuesday to decide the future course of action of their protest.
Chennai
The members unanimously decided to hold agitations in all taluks across the state on September 7.Â
“The government is yet to respond to our demands, so we have planned to stage a token protest on September 7, where members in every taluk will hold protest outside their offices. On September 8, there will be stirs in every district and if no action is taken even after these agitations, we will decide the next course on September 10,” said PK Ilamaran, member of Tamil Nadu Teachers Association.Â
“Over 10,000 government employees will participate in these agitations. We are ready to face arrest,” he added.
The employees have been demanding the government to implement the Eighth Pay Commission after removing the anomalies in the Seventh Pay Commission. They also seek 20 % to be paid as interim relief.Â
Their other demands include bringing back the old pension scheme.
On August 22, state government employees of almost all departments from across the state boycotted work.Â
A massive protest was organised on August 5 that caused traffic snarls in many areas.
