Booze party on railway track claims 3 lives in Chennai
In what looks like an accident due to sheer negligence of victims, three youngsters were fatally run over by an electric multiple unit (EMU) train between Mambalam and Kodambakkam stations on Sunday night. The victims have been identified as J Seshanth (20) of Kodambakkam, A Karthik (24) of Rangarajapuram and M Manojkumar (22) of Azeez Nagar.

Railway police said that the trio with another person came to attend a temple festival near Kodambakkam. Around 10 pm, they bought liquor from a nearby Tasmac shop and reached the railway track between Kodambakkam and Mambalam.
As they were drinking, they were knocked down by the EMU train bound for Tambaram from Chennai Beach. While Seshanth and Manojkumar died on the spot, Karthik was battling for life. The unidentified fourth person reportedly informed the parents of the deceased about the accident and fled the spot.
Manojkumar was brought to Mamabalam station in the same train and rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), but he was declared brought dead. While Seshanth was a final-year engineering student, Karthik was working with an advertisement firm. Manojkumar’s father Muthuramalingam runs a hotel in Coimbatore, while he stayed in the city after graduation. Mambalam railway police have registered a case and are searching the fourth person, who was with the three youngster at the time of accident.
Police said that despite several awareness campaigns launched by the Railway department, there seems to be no let-up in such accidents. Earlier this year, three men travelling on the footboard of a suburban train in Chennai were killed when they allegedly slipped from the running train near the St Thomas Mount station.
