2 youth held for duping, robbing elderly man in Tondiarpet
Two north Indian youth, who robbed Rs 60,000 from an elderly man on the pretext of depositing the money in the bank, were arrested on Thursday.

According to police, one S Imlal (21), a street vendor from Old Washermenpet, had gone to a private bank in Tondiarpet to deposit Rs 60,000 on August 8. While he was waiting for his turn in the bank, he was approached by two youths who told him that they would help him deposit the money.
Believing them, Imlal handed over the money and waited for a long time in the bank. However, the conmen escaped with the money. Later, Imlal lodged a complaint at Tondiarpet police station regarding the incident.
Tondaiarpet police personnel formed a special team to nab the culprits. The team scanned the CCTV footage from the bank and identified the accused persons. The police team later arrested A Pandithkumar (22) and P Surendarsanny (33), both from Ponneri in Thiruvallur district.Â
Further inquiry revealed that both accused were from Bihar and stayed at a rented house. They had also been indulging in such practices at different banks. They mainly conned aged and gullible people by diverting their attention They were also involved in serveral other thefts, said police officials.Â
The accused were remanded in judicial custody.Â
