New paramedical UG courses in SRMU from current academic year
With a need to strengthen paramedical courses, the Sri Ramachandra University is starting two new undergraduate courses, Medical Microbiology and Applied Molecular Biology and Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) from the current academic year.

Stating that the last date for application is August 21, a professor from the University said that the interview for selection will be held on August 24.
The B Sc (Hons) Medical Microbiology and Applied Molecular Biology, is a four-year undergraduate programme, during which students will learn different disciplines of medical microbiology such as Bacteriolgy, Immunology, Serology, Parasitology, Virology and Mycology and applied molecular biology.
“Many students who may not be able to pursue medicine, usually show interest in these courses, which have a lot of scope for research. These courses also give the students the scope to work in labs connected to hospitals,” said Dr Padma Srikanth, Professor, Microbiology department.
While students can pursue different career paths such as a Master’s degree or Doctoral and Post-doctoral degrees in Medical Microbiology and allied field, they can also work as Laboratory Assistants or Research Assistants in Molecular and Clinical research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, vaccine development units, food and water industries and healthcare institutions.
Students, who have passed Class 12 or have equivalent qualification with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botony and Zoology /Biotechnology/Microbilogy/Bio-Chemistry,can apply, stated a release.
BOT, on the other hand, is a four-and-a-half year course, including six months internship, wherein, students would learn the latest technological systems for evaluation, diagnosis, education and treatment of patients of all age groups, whose functions are affected by physical, psychosocial and cognitive impairments. They would also learn about development disorders or ageing process to prevent disability, promote health and well-being and return to optimum occupational roles, said a professor.
“Students, who have passed Class 12 and equivalent qualifications with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Botony and Zoology, can apply,” he added.
