Three Omni buses seized for fleecing passengers
Thanks to an extended weekend that fetches holidays for four consecutive days from today, people from this teeming metropolis were heading towards their native places to spend quality time with their families.

And naturally there was milling crowds at the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) at Koyambedu, from where inter-state buses were operated and at several places where omni buses operate.
Cashing on in the heightening demand, with people ready to shell out the extra money to get a seat, there were complaints that private buses were charging exorbitant fares from passengers.
Acting on a complaint, Tamil Nadu transport department officials conducted inspection at CMBT and seized three omni buses for overcharging the passengers today.
Also, the extra amount collected from passengers from 11 other buses were given back to them.
The officials found that the ticket fares were hiked by Rs 1,000 in many cases.
After the Saturday and Sunday weekend holidays, Monday and Tuesday were declared holidays for Janmashtami and Indepdence Day respectively.
