I have completed my graduation in Commerce. I would like to take up some jobs. What are my career options? How do I become an entrepreneur? (Alice Jency)

We have already discussed this query in another context, but your query is direct to take up some jobs immediately.

Commerce spreads its wings in small, medium and large-scale businesses. It is evident that commerce graduates are in huge demand. Completing B Com itself puts one in an advantageous position of a career path.

Following jobs are for the taking; accountant, tax consultant, human resource, banking. Business Process Outsourcing and Knowledge Process Outsourcing prefer commerce graduates in various capacities, for client servicing and customer care, auditor, stock broker, finance consultant, insurance consultant, travel agents, market researchers, entrepreneur, hotel management and all types of administrative jobs are on offer.

But if you want to carve a better career with your B Com, it is better to pursue some value-added courses. The courses could be in the fields of accounting and finance, business, commerce and other B Com related domains. Some of the professional courses in the fields as mentioned above ensure a decent job. It is a challenge to make a clear choice for the value-added courses, as there are diverse fields, like Certified Bank Manager Programme, Diploma in Banking and Services (DBFS), Certified Financial Planners, Certificate in Project Finance and Certified Analyst Programme. There are also International courses like Certified Management Accountant, Certified Public Accounting, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. The popular, short-term career oriented courses are diploma in banking and insurance, financial management, retail management, risk management, NSDL & CDSL, capital market, etc. The tally and other computer related accounting studies are also important.

Becoming an entrepreneur is as easy as cutting a cake. Well, if you decide to do something related to business and you are not merely dreaming about it, you are already an entrepreneur. Selling fruits or vegetable at the toll gate to founding a branded green crover market is the result of being an entrepreneur. The difference is where you want to be as an entrepreneur.

The internet, libraries and books are replete with tips to become successful entrepreneurs.

    * Enter into a career that you truly believe in.

    * Never regret failure, we only regret not trying. So take risks.

    * One has to have faith and challenge oneself simultaneously.

    * Keep positive people around you. They help you to have clear a vision.

    * Fear is one of our emotions. You have an obligation to face it.

    * Ideas should be turned into action plans and actualize the plans.

    * There is time for everything. Give everything its time.

    * What is equally to be managed along with time is the energy.

    * Build a good team with values and characters.

    * Keep the people at the centre of your business.
