No one was injured in the incident that happened around 5 am at the restaurant near Sathyam Cinemas.

Personnel from the Teynampet fire station rushed to the spot and put out the fire in over an hour. However, the entire ground floor of the two-storied building was gutted. The commotion that ensued unnerved customers, passers-by and shopkeepers in the locality adjoining one of the busiest roads in the city, especially during peak hours.

In another fire incident due to LPG leak at Vanagaram on Monday, a 23-year-old AC mechanic sustained burns. The injured, Vignesh, was sleeping when the house caught fire around 8 am and soon it engulfed him as well. Hearing Vignesh’s cries, neighbours rushed to his rescue and sent him to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital in an 108 ambulance.

Fire personnel from Vanagaram station arrived at the spot and brought the fire under control. A TV, fridge and a cupboard were damaged in the incident.

Three more incidents involving LPG leak in houses in Anna Nagar East and Vyasarpadi were also reported on Monday.
