Aavin increases daily milk sale in Chennai
The Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation’s (Aavin) continued sale of more than 12 lakh litres of milk daily has encouraged the federation to opt for additional measures to ensure that the figure touches 12.50 lakh litres on an average for August this year, officials told DT Next on Monday.

Marketing officials have been given the liberty to incorporate their ideas following the appointment of a new MD. This is cited as one reason for milk sales increasing from the usual 11.70 lakh litres daily sales some months ago. “Daily milk sales figures were 12.10 lakh litres for July and in the current month over around 12.30 lakh litres,” officials said and added “We expect to touch 12.50 lakh litres on average before the end of the current month.” What has encouraged the federation’s marketing team is that the sale of milk products touched Rs 18 crore this July compared to Rs 14 crore in the same period last year.
The officials have ensured that all the 36 federation outlets and the 264 franchised outlets have all products on stock and hence no customer has been turned away due to lack of products. “Additional routes being started to ensure total coverage of products for all outlets is what has done the trick,” officials said.
But one area where Aavin product to have failed to make the anticipated sales is its new product – Rasagulla, which currently sells 300 packs, each of 125 grams daily. “Unlike our north Indian competitors, we have been unable to get the proper consistency and flavour and so we have planned to appoint a few rasagulla expert cooks to learn how to do it right,” officials said. “Once this task is undertaken, we expect rasagulla also to be a regular favourite with our customers,” the officials hoped. And so, a search is on to locate and employ a good rasagulla master.
