Hoax bomb call to Metro Rail station

Police sources said that the arrested man Kalyan, who was living in the Arumbakkam area in the city, was irked over the high ticket rates and admitted to making  the ‘prank’ call. Kalyan went to Arumbakkam station and sought a ticket for Rs 5. Since the ticket rates were higher, he called up the Koyambedu Metro control room and said a bomb would go off at  the Metro station. 

Police, along with bomb disposal squad personnel, made a thorough search of the premises, and later found the threat to be a hoax. Officers also scrutinised the CCTV footage recorded in the station and nabbed Kalyan. On investigation, Kalyan said he had written letters to the authorities urging them to lower the basic Metro Rail fare from Rs 20 to Rs 5. After registering a case, Kalyan was referred to the Government Royapettah Hospital to test his mental stability.
