A locomotive was run on the downline of the 4 km stretch this morning with senior CMRL officials, including Managing Director Pankaj Kumar Bansal travelling on board. A trial run with a four-car metro train would be conducted on completion of system works, which were on the advanced stage on the stretch. Works are also underway at DMS, Teyampet, Nandanam and Saidapet underground stations, where installation of tunnel ventilation, signaling, platform screen doors and automatic fare collection gates are nearing completion.Â
It would be a few months before CMRL takes a full-fledged test run of a four-car metro train in to the tubes on Anna Salai stretch, considering that a metro train should ideally make several dozen trials, as it did on the 8-km Koyambedu – Nehru Park stretch, which was thrown open in the middle of May. Once commissioned, the length of underground metro network would increase to 12 kms. As on the Koyambedu – Nehru Park stretch, CMRL would only allow contactless SMART card on the Anna Salai stretch.Â
Given the availability of time, metro would also be able to introduce app based payment on Little Mount – DMS stretch.
