TNSCB flats at Vyasarpadi occupied without government orders

The Nochikuppam tenements were constructed at a cost of Rs 48.06 crore following the scheme being announced by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister through a Rule 110 announcement on the floor of the state assembly on July 15, 2014. The 397 square feet houses include hall, bedroom, kitchen, bath room and toilet with power and drinking water facilities.

The reconstructed Vyasarpadi tenements which boast of similar facilities have officials worried as they anticipate problems when they ask residents to move out in case a wrong beneficiary has occupied a flat meant for another. “This has always been a problem as occupancy by original residents is slated as soon as whitewashing is over. They were asked to move out when the board pulled down the dilapidated buildings two years ago,” TNSCB officials added. 

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “We stay in rented premises nearby and so we moved in when we knew the work was over. This will help us save rent.” It may be recalled that DT Next revealed the problem a few months ago when workers from northern states staying on site complained that many flat owners were already moving in when they knew the tenements were usable, though allotment orders were not issued.
